New translation of the Mass

The US Bishops’ website has a number of articles on the new English translation of the Mass. Some note how the new translation changes the style of our worship, making it more formal yet theologically deeper and more evocative. The 1969 translation stressed simplicity, modernity and making the liturgy comprehensible. But in some cases, it might be argued, the effort to simplify diluted and even distorted the concepts. The new rules (Rome 2002) sought to remedy this by a greater fidelity to the Latin in order to convey the rich heritage of the Roman Rite and its sense of God’s transcendence.

The website can be found here and booklets with the new Ordinary of the Mass are on sale at the back of church.
